SUN YAT SEN MEMORIAL
The influence of Dr. Sun Yat Sen is too extensive to detail here. He is the father of Chinese democracy and his 'three principals' are still adhered to.
His memorial encompasses an entire city block. The hall houses a huge statue honoring the man is plays host to many cultural events. The park surrounding the building is a popular place to stroll or just hang out. The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall has its own MRT station and is very easy to reach from the hostel.
TAIPEI GUEST HOUSE
Recently renovated and now open to the public on a limited basis, the Taipei Guest House has a reputation for being haunted. At over a 100-years-old that shouldn't be surprising. Built in 1901, the house remained the Japanese governor's residence throughout Japan's 50 years of occupation of Taiwan. Surrounded by gardens and landscaped ponds, the site has been returned to its former glory. The first floor houses a reception room and a banquet hall. Ornately carved columns on the second floor are decorated with carving of spirals and leaves. Crystal lamps and chandeliers hang from the ceiling.
