Woodcarving Festival

The woodcarving festival is more of a workshop/showingOnce an important export industry, woodcarving in Taiwan has steadily declined since the 1970s as competition from across Southeast Asia grew more intense--and, perhaps, as popular taste in Taiwan became more discerning and demanding. This combination of factors forced Taiwanese woodcarvers to refine their craftsmanship. Every year, Sanyi, the capital of woodcarving in Taiwan holds a festival to celebrate this traditional art form. As part of the month-long woodcarving festival, the Miaoli Wood Sculpture Museum annually hosts the "International Woodcarving Cultural Arts Festival Exhibition," which includes an international scholarly symposium on woodcarving. This year's exhibition comprises about 140 pieces, about half of which are the works of local Taiwanese.

Taiwan Tea Expo Tea plantations are often open to the public

The Taiwanese take their tea drinking seriously. Pinglin county, just north of Taipei, is the host of yearly Tea Festival that celebrates everything connected to this dietary staple. Tea products such as tea-flavored ice cream, tea wine, tea soaps and tea pillows are just some of the items available. Numerous event are held at the world's largest tea museum, the Ping Lin Tea Museum. This is the best place to get an understanding of traditional and modern tea process in Taiwan. There were also hands-on exercises for visitors to learn how to brew tea and cook up some tea-based dishes. If you enjoy Paochung, Oolong, Paihao, Black tea and others varieties, this is your event.
