228 Peace Park

228 Park

February 28, 1947 is considered the darkest moment in modern Taiwanese history. A confrontation between a vendor and police exploded into an island wide revolt that ultimately cost an estimated 30,000 native Taiwanese their lives.

Anger had been building due to the plundering of the island by the recently arrived forces of Chain Kai-shek.

This park (formerly the Taipei New Park) commemorates that event and features a large geometric memorial, a museum, as well as a number of brightly painted pavilions and a Buddhist Prayer tower.

A lovely place to stroll and relax amidst the hustle of the city.

Da-an Park

This centrally located park was once home to some rather ugly housing. It was carefully reclaimed and divided into a bamboo forest, flower patches, banyan trees, ponds, an open-air music stage and children playground. It's a wonderful place to walk around or exercise in. It also plays an important role in cleaning the air and rain water.

Yanminshan National Park is located in a valley surrounded on all sides by mountains
