Taichung
Taichung is on the other side of the Central Mountain Range. It is a mini-version of Taipei, but has milder weather and far less pollution. There are numerous parks, museums and temples, and some specialty streets such as "Tea Street" and "Art Street" that are worth a visit. There are flights, trains and buses to Taichung daily.
Lugang
Southwest of Taichung along the coast, Lugang is known for its temples; the finest in Taiwan (especially Longshan Temple and Matsu Temple). The shopping area ( Old Market Street in particular) and the local restaraunts make Lugang a popular place to visit if you are interested in elegant architecture. The annual 'Folkart Festival', shortly before the Dragon Boat Festival, is another popular attraction.
