Danshui

Danshui is where the Danshui River meets the sea. Danshui used to be an important fishing port, now its focus is mainly on tourism. Everyone in Taipei will tell you is a great place to go to eat fresh seafood.
Danshui is easy to visit as the MRT has a terminal station on the edge of the city. Danshui is small in size, but there is a number of sites worth visiting. There is a large traditional morning market in an older part of the city where fresh produce can be purchased. Longshan Temple is large and colorful and just down the road from another temple dedicated to Matsu.

Yinshan Temple has beautiful
artwork and is within walking distance to the MRT station. On the far end of town (take a bus or taxi) you can find Fort San Domingo. This 400 year old Dutch building has been recently renovated and is open to the public. The real attraction however, is the river. The riverside promenade is a nice place to stroll, and there are regular ferries to Bali, a beautiful fishing village that will soon be a major tourist attraction on its own. There is also a ferry to Danshui's Fisherman's Warf.
